A family tradition by the sea

Restaurant Thalassa is one of Zandvoort’s long-established beach restaurants. The Molenaar family has deep roots in the fishing world, and that history is still reflected in the restaurant’s strong focus on fresh North Sea fish and seafood.

For visitors coming from Keukenhof, Thalassa is especially useful because it is open year-round. That makes it a dependable choice in March, April and May, when the flower gardens are open and the Dutch coast can still have cool or changeable spring weather.

Fresh fish and seafood

Fish and seafood are at the heart of the menu. Depending on the current card you may find herring, smoked salmon, Dutch shrimp, oysters, kibbeling, sole and other North Sea dishes. There are also meat and vegetarian choices, so groups do not all have to choose seafood.

The restaurant publishes separate lunch and dinner menus online.

Lunch with a sea view

Thalassa works well for a casual lunch after a walk along the beach, but you can also stay for a full dinner. When the weather allows, the terrace gives you direct sea air and views across Zandvoort beach.

Opening hours

The restaurant is open throughout the year. The kitchen currently operates approximately from 10:00 to 21:00. Exact restaurant hours can vary, so check the official site for your chosen date.

From Keukenhof to Thalassa

Driving from Keukenhof to Zandvoort normally takes around 35–45 minutes. A good spring itinerary is to visit Keukenhof first, take time for the flower fields around Lisse and then continue to the coast for a beach walk and dinner at Thalassa.

Good to know

Thalassa offers fish and seafood but also meat and vegetarian dishes. Dietary wishes and allergies can be discussed with the restaurant in advance. The terrace is accessible to wheelchair users when it is open, and the year-round operation makes Thalassa a practical spring choice.

Public parking is available in Zandvoort’s car parks and paid parking zones. From there, continue on foot to the beach entrance.

Our tip

Make the coast your final stop

Visit Keukenhof early, enjoy the flower region during the day and save Zandvoort for the late afternoon. A walk on the beach followed by fresh fish or seafood at Thalassa makes a very Dutch finish to a spring day.
