What is Tulip Experience Amsterdam?
Tulip Experience Amsterdam is a family-run visitor attraction in the heart of the Dutch Flower Bulb Region. It was created to give visitors a beautiful and responsible place to experience tulips without walking into commercial production fields.
The experience combines three main parts: a large outdoor tulip garden, an indoor tulip museum and an indoor picking garden. Together they show both the beauty of the flowers and the work behind growing tulip bulbs.
The show garden contains around 4 million tulips and approximately 700 varieties. Different varieties flower at different times, so the colours and appearance of the garden change throughout the spring season.
Walk among the tulips in the show garden

The outdoor garden is designed specifically for visitors. Unlike commercial bulb fields, you are welcome to walk through the paths and take photographs among the flowers.
There are dedicated photo points throughout the garden, including typically Dutch settings such as a windmill, bicycle, tractor, clogs and colourful frames. Because the 700 varieties bloom in phases, there is something different to see throughout the season.
Good to know: flowering is always influenced by nature and weather. The garden changes from week to week, while the indoor tulip displays help ensure there are tulips to enjoy throughout the season.
Here you are allowed to photograph between the tulips
The surrounding commercial bulb fields are working production fields and should not be entered. Tulip Experience has a purpose-built 40,000 m² show garden where visitors can walk the paths, stand among the flowers and use the photo props without damaging a grower’s crop.
Discover the Tulip Museum
Inside the Tulip Museum you can learn how the Dutch tulip industry developed and how growers produce bulbs today. The displays explain the journey from bulb to flower, the history of the tulip and the modern cultivation process.
You can explore the museum at your own pace or add an audio tour for an extra charge. The audio tour is available in 11 languages, making it useful for international visitors.
Pick your own small bouquet
A regular admission ticket includes a small bunch of tulips from the indoor picking area. This is a designated place where visitors can choose their own flowers to take home.
The outdoor show garden is for looking, walking and photography; picking takes place only in the indoor picking area.
Is Tulip Experience Amsterdam good for children?
Yes. The combination of colourful flowers, photo points, the museum and the indoor picking garden makes the attraction easy to enjoy as a family. The site is compact enough for a relaxed visit and there is plenty to look at without needing to spend a full day there.
Spacious toilets include a baby-changing area, and the attraction is mostly on one level. Families can also stop at the on-site coffee corner for drinks or something to eat.
Opening hours in 2027, extended evenings & Golden Hour
Tulip Experience Amsterdam is open from 18 March to 9 May 2027. The regular opening time is 08:00–18:00 every day. When the tulip garden is at its most colourful, several dates in April and May have longer opening hours for visitors who want extra time in the garden and softer evening light.

Selected Saturdays, through the evening light around sunset.

Golden Hour tip: the four Saturday evening dates — 10, 17 and 24 April and 1 May 2027 — are the best choice if you specifically want warm, low evening light. Tulip Experience states that these extended-hour tickets are sold for the same price as a regular ticket. Sunset and light conditions naturally depend on the weather.
A normal visit takes around 60–90 minutes, with a maximum visit/parking period of two hours. Before 11:00 and after 16:00 it is generally quieter. For regular-day photography, the light is particularly attractive around 08:00–09:00 and later in the afternoon.
Private photo shoots before opening
For visitors who want the garden with fewer people, private shoots can be requested Monday to Thursday between 07:00 and 08:00, before normal opening time. These are separate arrangements and must be requested directly from Tulip Experience Amsterdam in advance.
Drones are not allowed during opening hours for visitor safety.

Where is Tulip Experience Amsterdam?
Delfweg 37, 2211 VK Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands.
The attraction lies in the Bollenstreek (Dutch Flower Bulb Region), between Lisse, Noordwijkerhout and Hillegom. It is especially easy to combine with Keukenhof: the official route information lists the two attractions at roughly 4 km apart. In light traffic the drive can be only a few minutes, but during the spring peak it is sensible to allow extra time.
How to get there from Keukenhof, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden and the coast
The location is easiest to reach by car, coach or bicycle, but public transport is possible as well. The travel times below are indicative figures published by Tulip Experience; traffic in the Bollenstreek can be much heavier on sunny weekends, around Keukenhof and during major spring events.
| From | Distance | Car | Train / bus | Bike |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keukenhof | 4 km | about 4 min* | — | about 10 min |
| Noordwijk | 9 km | about 10 min | about 20 min | about 30 min |
| Zandvoort | 14 km | about 22 min | about 40 min | about 45 min |
| Haarlem | 15 km | about 25 min | about 20 min | about 50 min |
| Leiden | 17 km | about 24 min | about 22 min | about 55 min |
| Schiphol Airport | 23 km | about 20 min | about 45 min | — |
| Amsterdam | 32 km | about 35 min | about 40 min | — |
*Published route estimate in normal traffic. Spring congestion can make the Keukenhof–Tulip Experience journey noticeably longer.
By public transport
Travel to Hillegom railway station, then take bus 22 towards Leiden and get off at Ruigenhoek. From the bus stop it is around a 10-minute walk to Tulip Experience Amsterdam. Check the live journey before departure because seasonal traffic can affect bus times.

By bicycle
Tulip Experience is on popular cycling routes through the Flower Bulb Region and can be reached via the separated cycle path along Delfweg. Bicycle racks are available in the parking area. Cycling can be a practical choice on very busy spring days when the local roads are congested.
Parking, coaches, camper vans and bicycles
Park next to the attraction
Tulip Experience Amsterdam has its own parking area for cars, coaches and camper vans. Parking is free and no parking reservation is required.
Camper vans may use the limited camper spaces while visiting the attraction, but this is not an overnight campsite. Cyclists can use the bicycle racks in the parking area.
On busy tulip weekends, arrive with some extra time. The car park may be close to the entrance, but roads around Lisse, Noordwijkerhout and Keukenhof can become congested.

Tulip Experience vs Keukenhof, The Tulip Barn and De Tulperij
These spring attractions are close to one another, but they offer different experiences. If you have time, combining two can make a more varied day than visiting only one.
Keukenhof
Best for landscaped gardens, pavilions and a longer half-day or full-day visit. You do not walk through production fields.
Plan Keukenhof →Tulip Experience
Best for walking among 4 million tulips, learning the grower’s story, taking photos and picking a small indoor bouquet.
The Tulip Barn
Best for colourful photo settings and a relaxed tulip attraction close to Keukenhof.
View The Tulip Barn →De Tulperij
Best for a personal farm atmosphere, free show garden, greenhouse café and bookable activities.
View De Tulperij →For a relaxed combination with Keukenhof, allow 60–90 minutes for Tulip Experience and several hours for Keukenhof. Build in extra transfer time because spring traffic can be heavy.
