Where are the tulip fields near Keukenhof?
The best-known flower-growing area is the Bollenstreek, the bulb-growing region between Leiden and Haarlem. Keukenhof sits in the heart of this landscape, with many fields around Lisse, Hillegom, Noordwijkerhout, De Zilk, Voorhout and Sassenheim.
The scenery changes constantly during spring. One road may be lined with bright tulip fields while another field nearby has already been cut or is planted with a different crop. That is part of the experience: there is no single permanent tulip-field location.
Lisse & Keukenhof
A central base for exploring the Bollenstreek, with flower fields in the countryside around the Keukenhof area.
Hillegom
A traditional bulb-growing town with many fields in the surrounding countryside and The Tulip Barn nearby.
Noordwijkerhout & De Zilk
Excellent countryside for flower-field routes, with Tulip Experience Amsterdam in Noordwijkerhout.
Voorhout & Sassenheim
Explore the southern Bollenstreek and combine the fields with a visit to De Tulperij in Voorhout.
When should you use the tulip fields map?
The flower-field season usually develops from early spring into May. Daffodils and hyacinths generally appear before many tulips, while April usually gives the best chance of seeing colourful tulip fields. Exact flowering dates depend on weather, temperature and the varieties planted by each grower.
If you are travelling specifically to see tulip fields, keep your itinerary flexible. A route that looked spectacular a week earlier may have changed, while another area may suddenly be at its best.
Read the flower-season guide for more information about how spring develops around Keukenhof.
Can you walk into the tulip fields?
Most flower fields shown on the map are working agricultural land and private property. Enjoy the view from public roads and paths, and never enter a field unless the grower explicitly allows visitors. Walking between rows can damage flowers, bulbs and the soil and can contribute to the spread of plant diseases.
Want photos among the tulips? Choose a visitor attraction designed for this purpose. De Tulperij, Tulip Experience Amsterdam and The Tulip Barn offer organised flower experiences where visitors can get much closer to the blooms.
