Should you choose Scheveningen after Keukenhof?
Choose Scheveningen when you want a full seaside destination rather than the closest beach. It takes longer to reach than Noordwijk or Katwijk, but rewards you with the Pier, a lively boulevard, family attractions, hotels and a much wider choice of restaurants.
The Pier at Scheveningen
The Pier extends over the North Sea and is the most recognisable Scheveningen attraction. It is an easy place for a walk, sea views, food and indoor shelter when the weather changes. SkyView de Pier, the ferris wheel above the sea, gives elevated views over the beach and coastline.

The area around the Pier and Kurhaus is the busiest part of the resort. For a quieter walk, continue farther along the beach away from the central attractions.

Scheveningen has much more than a beach. The aquarium and indoor LEGO discovery centre are steps from the boulevard, while Madurodam sits between the coast and The Hague city centre. Each attraction has a separate TulipHolland.com guide with visitor facilities, transport, access information, frequently asked questions and direct ticket booking.

South of the main boulevard, Scheveningen Harbour offers a different atmosphere, with working maritime surroundings, vessels, a marina and seafood dining. It is a worthwhile area for a longer walk or an evening meal, especially if you want to see a less tourist-oriented side of the resort.
Accessible visits, toilets and facilities
The paved boulevard is suitable for many visitors with wheelchairs or pushchairs, although access to loose sand is more challenging. Beach-wheelchair arrangements and seasonal toilet access differ by location, so confirm availability before travelling. Toilets and baby facilities are also available at several attractions and guest venues; some are reserved for ticket holders or customers.
Dogs, cycling and a safe beach day
Rules for dogs and cycling vary by beach section and season. Follow the local municipal signage rather than assuming that every stretch of beach has identical restrictions. Swim only where and when conditions are suitable, observe warning flags and keep children close to the waterline.
Visiting in every season
Spring is a practical time to combine the coast with Keukenhof. Summer brings lively terraces, seasonal beach pavilions and the busiest weekends. Autumn and winter suit refreshing walks and visits to indoor attractions, but strong winds and rain may affect some outdoor activities.

Where to park in Scheveningen
Parking near the beach is almost entirely paid and can become busy on sunny days. Large garages include Q-Park Strand at Zwolsestraat, Q-Park Kurhaus at Gevers Deynootplein and garages around Nieuwe Parklaan and the boulevard.
Choose a garage before you arrive instead of circling the seafront. The central Pier and Kurhaus area is walkable once parked. Always check the current tariff and closing conditions for the garage you select.
Restaurants and beach clubs
There are many places to eat along the boulevard and directly on the beach. Well-known beach options include OCEANS Beach House, Hart Beach Restaurant and Patagonia Beach. For evening entertainment, Crazy Pianos is a familiar name on the boulevard.
Because Scheveningen is much larger than Noordwijk or Katwijk, you can choose anything from a quick snack to a long dinner overlooking the sea.
Hotels at Scheveningen Beach
The best-known hotel is the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus, directly opposite the beach. Other beachfront options include Carlton Beach and Strandhotel Scheveningen. Staying overnight is especially useful if you plan to combine Keukenhof with The Hague over two days.
Is Scheveningen suitable for children?
Yes. The wide beach, Pier, aquarium and nearby attractions provide plenty of family options. However, the central boulevard can be very busy. Agree on a meeting point and supervise children closely both on the promenade and near the water.
Swimming and beach safety
Swimming is possible in suitable conditions, but the North Sea has currents, waves and rapidly changing weather. Follow flags, signs and lifeguard instructions. Never use the structures around the Pier as a substitute for a designated swimming area.
Combine Scheveningen with Keukenhof
Allow substantially more travel time than you would for Noordwijk. A good plan is Keukenhof in the morning and Scheveningen from late afternoon into the evening. If your schedule is tight, choose a closer beach. If you want the most complete beach-and-attractions experience, Scheveningen is hard to beat.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Scheveningen from Keukenhof?
Allow roughly 45 to 60 minutes by car in normal conditions, and more during busy spring or beach traffic.
What is there to do at Scheveningen besides the beach?
Walk on the Pier, ride SkyView de Pier, visit SEA LIFE, see the Kurhaus, eat at beach clubs or combine the coast with The Hague and Madurodam.
Where should I park for the Pier?
Large paid garages around Zwolsestraat, Kurhaus and Nieuwe Parklaan are practical for the central beach. Check live availability and current tariffs before arrival.
Is Scheveningen better than Noordwijk after Keukenhof?
Scheveningen has more attractions but is farther away. Noordwijk is usually the more convenient coastal stop directly from Keukenhof.
Can I stay overnight on the beach?
You can stay at beachfront hotels, but sleeping or camping on the public beach itself is not the same as booking accommodation and local rules apply.
