No — you cannot fly a drone over or around Keukenhof
Keukenhof does not allow drones to fly over or around the park because of visitor safety. That applies even if you only want a few aerial shots, plan to fly for a very short time or use a small consumer drone.
The simplest advice for visitors is therefore: leave the drone packed away during your Keukenhof visit and use a camera or phone inside the park instead.
Does the rule also apply to a drone under 250 grams?
Yes. A lighter drone may fall under different national aviation requirements, but that does not override Keukenhof's own park rule. The Keukenhof restriction is about flying a drone over or around the park, not about the weight of the drone.
So a small sub-250-gram drone is not a way around the Keukenhof rule.
Why are drones not allowed at Keukenhof?
Keukenhof welcomes large numbers of visitors during a short spring season. Paths, gardens, bridges and popular photo locations can be busy, and a drone adds an avoidable safety risk above people.
For a visitor, the important point is straightforward: the restriction protects people in and around the park and applies regardless of whether your intention is recreational photography, social-media content or professional filming.
Can I launch a drone just outside the entrance and fly over Keukenhof?
No. Keukenhof states that drones may not be flown over or around the park. Launching from a nearby road, car park or other location does not make an overflight of Keukenhof acceptable.
In addition, drone flights in the Netherlands are subject to national airspace and safety rules. Never assume that a take-off point is legal simply because it is outside the park boundary.
Can I fly a drone over the tulip fields near Keukenhof?
Possibly in some locations, but never automatically. The flower region around Lisse is much larger than Keukenhof itself, and conditions can vary from one place to another. Before every flight, check the current Dutch drone map and any temporary airspace restrictions.
Also remember that many tulip fields are working farms and private property. Do not enter a field to launch, land or photograph without the grower's permission, and never damage crops for a shot. A location that looks empty from the road is still not necessarily a suitable or permitted take-off point.
What should I check before flying elsewhere in the flower region?
Current airspace
Check the official Dutch drone map shortly before take-off. Restrictions can be permanent or temporary.
People & crowds
Spring weekends can be busy. Do not plan a flight that puts visitors, cyclists, traffic or other people at risk.
Private land
Tulip fields are usually private working land. Get permission before entering property or using it as a launch or landing site.
Your drone category
Know which EU/Dutch operating category applies to your drone and whether registration, training or other requirements apply.
Temporary restrictions
Events, emergency services or other circumstances can change where flying is allowed on a particular day.
Safe alternatives
If there is any doubt, keep the drone grounded. The Bollenstreek offers plenty of excellent photography from public roads and visitor attractions.
How can I get great photos without a drone?
You do not need an aerial camera to come home with impressive spring images. Keukenhof is designed around viewpoints, water, bridges, winding paths and layered flower beds, so ground-level photography often works extremely well.
- Visit early or later in the day for softer light and a more relaxed feel.
- Use the Keukenhof windmill area for a more elevated visual perspective and classic Dutch scenery.
- Photograph across water to add reflections and depth to flower displays.
- Use paths and bridges as leading lines instead of trying to photograph everything from above.
- Explore the flower region outside the park from public roads and designated visitor locations without stepping into growers' fields.
What about professional photography or commercial filming?
Do not assume that a professional purpose creates an exception to the drone restriction. Keukenhof also has rules concerning commercial use of the Keukenhof name, photos and video. If you are planning a commercial production, campaign or professional shoot, arrange the necessary permission with Keukenhof before your visit rather than arriving with equipment and hoping to use it.
Drone rules can change outside Keukenhof
The Keukenhof rule itself is clear, but airspace rules elsewhere can change. Dutch authorities provide a current drone map showing where flights are restricted or subject to conditions. Check it close to the actual time of your planned flight rather than relying on an old screenshot, blog post or map saved months earlier.
